History

The T-72B3 is a modernised version of the Soviet-era T-72 main battle tank, originally introduced in the 1970s. The B3 variant was developed by Russia and entered service in 2010 as a cost-effective upgrade to extend the life and capability of the ageing T-72 fleet. It features a more powerful engine, advanced fire-control systems, a new thermal imaging sight, and improved armour protection, including explosive reactive armour (ERA). The T-72B3 retains the 125mm smoothbore gun, now capable of firing guided missiles. It has been widely deployed by the Russian Armed Forces and has seen combat in recent conflicts. Designed to enhance performance while remaining affordable, the T-72B3 continues to play a key role in Russia’s armoured forces.
