Ukraine's acquisition of the F-16 AM Fighting Falcon marks a significant step in modernising its air force. The F-16, originally developed by General Dynamics for the United States Air Force in the 1970s, is a versatile multirole fighter jet renowned for its agility, advanced avionics, and combat effectiveness. The AM variant, specifically, features upgraded avionics, weapons systems, and radar capabilities, making it a formidable platform in both air-to-air and air-to-ground roles.

Following the 2022 Russian invasion, Ukraine sought to enhance its air defense capabilities to counter the technologically superior Russian Air Force. In response, Western allies, recognising Ukraine's urgent needs, facilitated the transfer and training for the F-16 AMs. The integration process involves extensive pilot training and logistical support to ensure operational readiness.
